Welcome to the official website for the Johnson Street Bridge Replacement Project. Located in the heart of Victoria, British Columbia, the Johnson Street Bridge provides an important transportation link into Victoria’s downtown.
Construction of the new bridge will begin in May 2013. The existing 89-year-old Johnson Street Bridge will stay open throughout construction as crews build the new bridge slightly to the north. The new bridge will open to traffic by the end of 2015.
The new bridge will feature new pathways and bike lanes, improving safety and accessibility for cyclists, pedestrians, and those who use mobility aids. Upon completion, it will be the largest single-leaf bascule bridge in Canada, and one of the largest in the world, creating a new iconic structure and destination within Victoria’s Inner Harbour.
