Alternate Approval Process

On November 19, 2009 City Council initiated the Alternate Approval Process with a resolution passed in a special council meeting.

The Alternate Approval Process is being used to obtain elector approval to adopt the bylaw that authorizes the City to finance the $42 million capital construction cost of replacing the Johnson Street Bridge

Electors have until January 4, 2010 in which to sign an Elector Responce Form opposing the bylaw. If more than 10% of the electors submit valid petitions, the City cannot proceed with the proposed bylaw without holding a referendum.

The form must be printed, filled out completely and submitted either in person or by mail to the Corporate Administrator, 1 Centennial Square, Victoria, BC, V8W 1P6. The form must be received before 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2010, in order to be accepted.
