Council Confirms Project Scope for Johnson Street Bridge

March 9 2011

Victoria City Council confirmed the Johnson Street Bridge Project scope without rail at a special Council meeting earlier today.

The City will work with the Island Corridor Foundation and BC Transit on an appropriate rail station location on the west side of the harbour and ensure transit connectivity between the station and downtown during construction.

City Staff will amend the City’s UBCM gas tax application to substitute the funding request for the rail component with a funding request for the on-road commuter bike lanes that are already part of the project scope. If the City is successful in this funding application it would further reduce the amount needed to borrow.
